What’s On at RGS Worcester This Michaelmas Term
With the Michaelmas term now well underway, there is plenty to look forward to at RGS Worcester over the coming months, with a busy programme of performances, trips, sporting fixtures, House competitions and community events taking us through to Christmas.
The Performing Arts calendar is particularly full. Today, Friday 25 September, pupils will take to the stage for RGS Live, the School’s Rock and Pop Concert in the Performing Arts Centre. This will be followed by the Sixth Form Music Showcase on Thursday 8 October and the Autumn Concert on Tuesday 10 November. One of the major highlights of the term will be the Senior Musical production of Disney’s Frozen, which will run from Monday 23 to Friday 27 November. December will then bring Christmas with the Big Band on Wednesday 2 December before the annual RGS Worcester Carol Service in Worcester Cathedral on Tuesday 8 December.
There is also plenty to look forward to beyond the classroom. The upcoming Expedition Weekend will see pupils taking part in Combined Cadet Force and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award activities across the country, while later in the term pupils and students will travel further afield. Trips include Sixth Form Politics students visiting the Houses of Parliament, Geography students travelling to Italy and Sicily, Modern Foreign Languages trips to Montpellier and Valencia, Upper Sixth Physicists visiting CERN in Switzerland and Rowers attending a training camp in France. Year Seven pupils will also visit the Natural History Museum in London, with many more Academic and Co-curricular visits taking place throughout the term.
Sport will continue at pace across Rugby, Hockey, Football, Netball, Rowing, Swimming and Fencing. Among the key fixtures will be the Severn Shield Hockey matches against The King’s School, Worcester on Wednesday 14 October, while the term will conclude with a highlight of the RGS sporting calendar, the Modus Challenge Cup at Sixways Stadium on Wednesday 9 December.
House competitions will run throughout the Michaelmas term, with pupils representing Elgar, Ottley, Whiteladies and Wylde in events including Pétanque, Badminton, Chess, Poetry, General Knowledge and the Cipher Challenge. The programme provides plenty of opportunities for pupils across the Year Groups to contribute to their House and try something different.
The weeks ahead will also include the School’s Remembrance Service on Wednesday 11 November, the Model United Nations Conference on Saturday 14 November and fundraising for BBC Children in Need on Friday 20 November. Prospective families will have further opportunities to experience RGS Worcester too, including the Sixth Form Open Morning on Saturday 10 October.
With so much taking place between now and the end of term on Friday 11 December, Michaelmas promises to provide pupils with a wide range of opportunities to perform, compete, explore, contribute and enjoy everything that School life has to offer.
