A Celebration of Musical Excellence
Last Friday marked a memorable celebration of Music at RGS Worcester under the leadership of Director of Music, Mr Jonathan Soman, who will be leaving RGS Worcester at the end of this term after six remarkable years of service. The Concert was a fitting tribute to Mr Soman’s leadership and the vibrant musical culture he has helped nurture during his time at RGS.
Current pupils, Music staff, and alumni gathered to perform in his honour. It was wonderful to welcome back former pupils, including James Kitcherman, who has graduated in Music from Cambridge University with a First Class degree and is going on to complete a Master’s in ‘Solo Voice Ensemble Singing’. Also in attendance was George Oates, who performed a song from his original musical, soon to be showcased at the Edinburgh Fringe. A highlight of the evening was a surprise cameo from Senior Teacher, Dr Ehlers, who delighted the audience with a spirited rendition of Flanders and Swann’s ‘The Hippopotamus Song’. The Headmaster said a few words to thank the talented performers – current pupils, former pupils, Music teachers and other staff, as well as congratulate Mr Soman for all he has achieved as Director of Music.
The Concert celebrated the impact Mr Soman has had on Music at RGS and gave the School community a chance to thank him for the passion, creativity and commitment he has brought to every rehearsal, performance and concert. He will be greatly missed although he will remain in close contact with RGS by taking on a mentor role to assist our new Director of Music, Mr Conway. Mrs Soman will also continue to teach at RGS so the Soman family will remain very much connected to the School.
