RGS Crews Make Waves Inland and at Sea
RGS Worcester rowers have continued their impressive season with strong performances both on the river and at the coast. At the Worcester Regatta, RGS celebrated three event wins. In the Open J18 Quadruple Scull, Freddie Fielding, Jacob Hartley, Matthew Ferris and Zac Jew powered to victory. Meanwhile, Martha Colclough and Lottie Richardson won the Women’s J17 Double Scull, and Freddie Fielding and Jacob Hartley secured a second win in the Open J17 Double Scull.
Success extended to the coast at the English Beach Championships, one of three qualifying events for the GB Beach Sprint Trials. Competing against a strong national field, Lucy Whiteley claimed Bronze and Olivia Hodgson took home Gold, earning the title of English Champion.
We are pleased to share that Olivia and Lucy featured again on JRN.com with a glowing prediction of The National Schools’ Regatta saying: “I believe it will be very much the Royal Grammar School Worcester and Rob Roy rivalry on display, sprinting to the line for that top podium position. I expect the latter will be bested again, and the girls from Royal Grammar School will take it. Though this may sound like it closes many of the podium opportunities, I feel the rest of the field will fight for the bronze, with the Wycliffe double just rising above them all”. JRN.com had further comments and predictions on our RGS rowers. If you would like to read the full article, you can do so here.
A huge well done to everyone involved in the Worcester Regatta and the English Beach Sprints for such fantastic achievements!
