Year Ten Inspired by Speed, Engineering and Legacy
Year Ten Design Technology pupils enjoyed an inspiring visit to the Coventry Transport Museum on Tuesday, gaining a first-hand insight into the engineering behind Thrust SSC – the current holder of the World Land Speed Record.
A highlight of the trip was a fascinating lecture delivered by two key figures from the project, Lead Engineer Glynne Bowsher and SatComms Specialist Jeremy Davey, who are also the grandfather and father of a current RGS Year Ten pupil. Their personal connection to the RGS Worcester community made the experience especially meaningful, as pupils learned directly from experts who played pivotal roles in developing the supersonic car.
In addition to the lecture, pupils explored the Museum’s extensive exhibits and experienced the Thrust SSC simulator, which brought the world of high-speed engineering vividly to life.
The Coventry Transport Museum is home to the largest publicly owned collection of British vehicles in the world, showcasing motor cars, commercial vehicles, cycles, and motorcycles. The visit provided pupils with a valuable opportunity to connect their classroom learning to real-world applications in design, innovation and engineering.
