Year Eleven Pupil Represents Worcestershire at Intercounty Badminton Tournament
Year Eleven pupil Molly Powner demonstrated exceptional dedication to her sport when she chose to forgo attending the highly anticipated ‘Superball’ match to compete for Worcestershire County Seniors’ 3rd team. Called up to play in a two-day intercounty tournament in Peterborough, Molly played a key role in the team’s success as they secured promotion to the next division.
Worcestershire delivered strong performances, claiming victories against Norfolk and Northamptonshire before facing a tough match against Derbyshire, the league’s top team. Worcestershire finished second overall, a result that ensures their advancement to the next Division.
Reflecting upon this achievement, Molly commented: “I had already bought my ‘Superball’ ticket and made plans with friends, but my coach said our team had a chance at promotion, so I knew I had to play. Winning two of my matches and knowing I helped secure the team promotion made missing the ‘Superball’ worth it. Hopefully I will get the chance to go next year – and RGS will win again!”
Molly’s commitment to representing her county at such a high level is commendable, particularly given the difficult decision she faced. Her dedication to Badminton inspires us, and we are incredibly proud of her achievement!
