Mathematical Minds Shine: Outstanding Results in Olympiad for Girls
Before Half term, fourteen Year Eleven to Upper Sixth girls put themselves forward to participate in the Mathematics Olympiad for Girls. This annual competition, as billed by the organisers, “consists of five challenging problems”, which is a major understatement given that the paper lasts 2 hours 30 minutes and the content contains complex geometric and algebraic concepts!
However, the large number of pupils volunteering to participate is a testament to our pupils’ enjoyment of academic challenge and their resilience. We were delighted to receive an excellent set of results, with two Distinctions and seven Merits awarded. Top performers included Upper Sixth student Elizabeth Crookall and Lower Sixth student Polina Usenko, who both achieved 28 marks out of 50 and Year Eleven pupil Sophie Fisher, who scored 25 marks.
Congratulations to all those who participated!
