CCF Cadets Honour 80th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings
Last Saturday, RGS CCF Cadets attended a Commemoration Service event marking the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings. The Commemorative Service took place at Claines Royal British Legion, paying tribute to the bravery and sacrifices made during this pivotal moment in history.
Cadets Heidi Porter and Charlie Towe represented the RGS CCF, accompanied by Mrs Sturdy and Dr Smith. The service was conducted by Reverend Lindsey Coultard from St Stephen’s Church, Barbourne. A traditional Drum Head service, a ceremony with deep historical roots, formed a central part of the commemoration.
Originating in the 1700s, the Drum Head service was established as a means for soldiers about to enter battle to reflect and remember their fallen comrades. During this service, cadets played a vital role, accompanying the regimental flag with solemn dignity.
This event not only honoured those who participated in the D-Day Landings but also served as a poignant reminder of the courage and resilience shown during one of history’s most critical military operations. The presence of RGS CCF Cadets highlighted the importance of remembering and learning from the past, ensuring that the legacy of those who served is carried forward by future generations.
