Wave of Success at Worcester Regatta
Last Saturday, the Boat Club had another successful Regatta at the Worcester Spring Regatta. Head of Rowing Mr Tim Messent shares the following report:
“It was great to see a number of the Year Nine pupils make their competition debut. The Women’s Junior 14 Quad Scull of Amelia Gutteridge, Evie Powell, Emily Pipe and Grace Challinor, coxed by Sam Frettington, rowed well in the first event, as did the Boys’ Quad of Alby Enoch, Archie Davey, Arthur Hasling and Peter Jackson coxed by Phillip Butler.
In her debut, Bethany Atherton raced with substitute Lottie Richardson. The girls were drawn against Olivia Hodgson and Lucy Whiteley. Olivia and Lucy won in this event. In their singles Olivia and Lucy knocked out their opposition in the draw which resulted in an RGS vs RGS final. Olivia won the final by just two lengths.
Emma Pepperall and Emily Anderson raced well in the WJ15 singles. Charlotte Lamb had a great race in the WJ17 singles against Worcester Rowing Club. Ozzy Beswick raced in the J15 1x with impressive performances. In the J17 quads, he raced brilliantly but couldn’t quite get ahead of the opposition and was knocked out at the heat stages.
In the J15 quads, RGS had three crews racing. This event was a local derby between RGS and King’s School. The three RGS quads knocked out their opposition from King’s School in the heats and semi finals to leave an RGS vs RGS final. The quad of Sihan Fu, Oliver Maggs, Zac Johnson and Noah Chilton coxed by Tobey Prendergast won the event.
In summary, it was a great day of racing with wins by Olivia Hodgson in the J17 1x, Olivia Hodgson and Lucy Whiteley in the WJ17 2x and the Op J15 quad.
RGS Worcester was presented with the Sculling Trophy by Andy Payne, Worcester Rowing Club President, to recognise the achievements of the crews during the day.”
