St Richard’s Celebratory and Teatime Concerts
On Wednesday 1 May, the RGS Junior Choir had the privilege of singing in St Richard’s Hospice’s 40th Anniversary Service in Worcester Cathedral. Marking 40 years as a local institution, many speakers during the service talked of their memories of the incredible work of the Hospice and its development from humble beginnings in 1984.
Fifty members of the RGS Junior Choir reprised their two songs from our recent ‘Sing, Sing, Sing’ concert, first singing Will Todd’s ‘All Will Be Well’, which itself was written for a special concert in aid of Cancer Research UK in 2018. Following this, the Junior Choir joined with our friends from King’s Hawford and their Director of Music, Mrs Sophie Hughes, who conducted a performance of ‘Tears in Heaven’. The rich sound of the combined choir filled the Cathedral and had many attendees emotionally responding as they remembered the Hospice’s work with and for their loved ones. The service was a moving and celebratory marker of the Hospice’s good work, and the Junior Choir was glad to have been asked to take part.
The Year Eight Teatime Concert
Six days later, nineteen pupils in Year Eight performed in a Teatime Concert in Perrins Hall. The performances were all of a very high standard from some of our younger pupils, with songs and pieces ranging from challenging Russian opera to pop and theatre classics being presented side-by-side. With over 20 performers, RGS Music is in safe hands for the future with some great talent on show. Special mention must go to Immy Warne and Lilah Morgan who sang their songs at the end of the concert having just returned by bus from an Athletics fixture that afternoon about five minutes before singing!
Generous string playing, characterful woodwind and brass pieces, lyrical piano performances and many songs were enjoyed by the audience and we congratulate all who performed.
