Lent Term House Report
The House competition has seen a range of enjoyable events across this busy term.
The House competition continued at the beginning of a new calendar year, with E-sports taking centre stage on the big screen in the Lecture Theatre. The Junior and Senior competitions were fierce, but Wylde emerged victorious in both racing events before Elgar and Ottley shared the spoils in the Inters edition. Board Games returned over four wintery lunchtimes with Mrs Daniell, players from Year Seven and Year Eight playing a range of games; Wylde once more led the way with an impressive display to get some much-needed points on the board for Miss Smith and her House.
The Performing Arts Centre was then transformed to accommodate Indoor Rowing, with a strong showing from Elgar’s Juniors, and stiff competition between Ottley and Wylde in the Inters and Senior events. Elgar then took first place in the Staff race, to the delight of Mr Friend. Ottley secured a General Knowledge double with victory in the Junior edition and then backed this up with a resounding defence of their Eco Council-inspired Bird Feeder Challenge over the half-term break. The ever-impressive House Music event returned on St David’s Day with a Welsh theme, with Will Hulbert leading the Ottley ensemble to pip the others and take first place.
Whiteladies responded with excellent performances in Netball and Football, as well as Model-Making, Debating, Shooting and victory in Junior House Dance at the end of term, but Mr Joyner will be disappointed that his Red Team could not quite make up the difference on Elgar, who themselves could not overtake the leaders overall.
So, it is congratulations to Ottley House for storming ahead in the lead at the top of the table to take the Lent Term trophy. House Captains Jose Round and Jalfie Mossop commend the enthusiasm of all of the participants across the events that have put them back to the top of the standings for the first time in a long time! The competition is still all to play for in the Trinity Term, beginning with Giving Day activities for everyone.
Overall standings:
1st – Ottley (126 points)
2nd – Elgar (118 points)
3rd – Whiteladies (116.5 points)
4th – Wylde (109.5 points)
