Year Ten Pupils Experience Life ‘on the beat’ During the May Half Term Break
Lucia Weaver, Libby Cox, Joe Kington and Fin Breese all enjoyed work experience with West Mercia Police over the May Half Term Break. The invitation to see the work of the local constabulary had been made to schools across the region and the four were lucky enough to secure places.
The pupils worked across different departments, seeing first hand the important work of the Police, both uniformed and non uniformed. They were lucky to accompany officers in the local community, based at Worcester Police Station on Castle Street, and enjoyed a visit to Hindlip, West Mercia’s headquarters.
Lucia said, “I was quite apprehensive when I walked into the station on day one, but I have to say I had the most brilliant week. I would recommend this work experience to anyone interested in the uniformed services or those keen to make a difference in their community”.
Libby particularly enjoyed a trip with uniformed response, saying “It was great being in the back of a Police Car, for all the right reasons! We particularly enjoyed moving through the traffic with relative ease!”
Fin added, “My week was fantastic and it was a really good insight into a potential career. I am so glad this opportunity was available to me”.
Joe, who would like to pursue a career as a barrister, was particularly interested in the day to day application of the law, “It was such a worthwhile experience and quite an eye-opener into the work of the local Police Service. I can’t say too much as we had to sign the Official Secrets Act!”
Head of Careers, Mrs Audrey Williams said “Work experience of this nature provides such a valuable insight and we are very grateful West Mercia Police offered four of our pupils this opportunity to learn more about careers with the Police”.
The four pupils would like to thank Mrs Williams for arranging this work experience and to the officers of West Mercia for their kindness and good humour throughout the week.
