Showcasing Equestrian Excellence
Congratulations to Year Nine pupil Cleo Whitbread and her pony Wilma, who recently participated in their first 3-day event at Bicton Arena in Devon.
Despite the challenging conditions, Cleo and Wilma started strong with a solid dressage test on day one despite the wet conditions. The real test awaited them on day two—a lengthy Cross-country phase featuring roads, tracks, steeplechase, and a vet check.
Being one of the last riders on a rain-soaked course, Cleo and Wilma tackled the challenging ground and secured a clear Cross-country round with just a few penalty points. Time played a crucial role throughout the competition, adding an extra layer of pressure.
On the third day, a vet inspection preceded the showjumping phase in the prestigious Topspec International Arena. The wet grounds continued to pose a challenge, but Cleo and Wilma jumped a great round, knocking down only one pole and landing in 6th place overall. Cleo’s team, representing the Wales and West Midlands Regional Under 18 squad, earned a commendable 5th place.
The Bicton event marked the end of the 2023 eventing season, and what made it all the more special was that Cleo is only 13 years old, competing alongside adults and professionals.
Congratulations to Cleo, Wilma and the Wales-West Midlands Under 18 team for a remarkable season finish!
