Severn Stars Masterclasses and Regional Finals
Last weekend witnessed a flurry of activity on the Netball courts at RGS Worcester, as a cohort of over 80 pupils took part in three compelling Severn Stars Netball Masterclasses. Guided by the expertise of Severn Stars players: Betsy Creak, Rebekah Airey, and Jess Shaw, our pupils trained in various facets of the game, refining their skills and techniques.
Midcourt players learnt about confronting defenders and mastering early preparation for centre passes. Defence players focused on the intricacies of one-on-one defensive manoeuvres and winning the first challenge. Meanwhile, shooters honed their shooting techniques and absorbed valuable insights into circle movement.
As well as the Masterclasses, our 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th VII teams started the week playing competitive fixtures against a very strong cohort from the University of Worcester with our Under 16s emerging victorious in their encounter.
Regional Finals – 1st VII Squad
On Sunday, the pinnacle of the weekend’s Netball activities was the 1st team’s participation in the Regional Finals, having qualified through the County rounds. The squad transferred their recent training by the Severn Stars the day before into tangible results by winning their first 4 matches including beating Solihull School convincingly and finishing second in their pool of 6 teams. They lost in the semi-final narrowly missing out on qualifying for the National Finals. This was their 20th match of the academic year! We were delighted to see the girls step up, working through new structures which we have encouraged and implemented this season. They played some fast, exhilarating Netball which will stand them in good stead for the rest of the season.
Under 12 Netball matches
In the same week, our Under 12s fielded A to D teams and played matches against Winterfold House School and Moor Park as the players look to develop until they, too, can represent RGS at Senior level.
Well done to all of our Netball players for the first few weeks of term. We have played 98 matches with our 24 RGS teams!
