Triumphs and Progress at the Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s
The last week of the Lent term marked the eagerly anticipated arrival of the annual Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s Competition. RGS Worcester brought together teams across various age groups – Under 13, Under 14, Under 16, Under 18 Boys, and Under 18 Girls – providing a platform for 60 pupils to showcase their talents on a national stage. Head of Rugby, Mr Rob Lewis shares the following report:
“The Competition week commenced with the Under 18s securing victories in two out of three group games, triumphing over Reigate Grammar School (19-14) and Langley Park School for Boys (24-21). Following suit, the Under 14s dominated their opponents on the next day, claiming wins against Sevenoaks School (38-7) and Gunnersbury Catholic School (26-14), only narrowly missing advancement to their second day after a competitive loss to Sedbergh School.
The Under 16s competed next, concluding their group stage with a hard-fought 14-14 draw against Framlingham College, following two closely contested defeats in their opening fixtures. Meanwhile, the Under 18 Girls 1st VII, competing in their third Rossyln Park 7s competition, exhibited remarkable consistency with victories over Callywith College (12-5) and Hills Road Sixth Form College (24-5), the latter being last year’s Runner-Up. This underlines the significant progress made in Girls’ Rugby at RGS Worcester since its inception four years ago. The Under 13 team rounded off the week with an undefeated run in their waterfall group, showcasing their prowess against tough competition from Lancaster Royal Grammar School, Ysgol Calon Cymru, Ysgol Gyfun Rhydwaun, Caterham School, and Yarm School. These five victories demonstrate the strength and depth of this Year group and signal a promising future for the Rugby provision at RGS Worcester.
Overall, it was an exceptional week, with pupils proudly representing RGS Worcester. The unwavering support from peers, staff, and parents in the stands epitomised the strong sporting community and I am extremely grateful to everyone for playing their part”.
