RGS Rowers Impress at Evesham and Junior Sculling Regattas
It has been a remarkable few days for the RGS Boat Club, with our rowers delivering standout performances at both the Evesham Regatta and the Junior Sculling Regatta at Eton College’s Dorney Lake.
On Saturday, 46 RGS rowers competed in 21 crews at Evesham Regatta. Notable victories included the J18 double scull of Matthew Ferris and Zac Jew, and the J18 quad of Freddie Fielding, Matthew Ferris, Jacob Hartley and Zac Jew. Across the board, RGS crews reached numerous finals, demonstrating depth and determination. A special mention goes to the WJ14 double of Sophie Maggs and Eva Davies, who, despite it being their first ever race, reached the final, which was a fantastic achievement and a promising start to their racing careers.
The success continued at the Junior Sculling Regatta at Dorney Lake, where Lottie Richardson and Martha Colclough qualified for the A Final in the WJ17 double sculls, finishing fourth after a strong performance. Meanwhile, Olivia Hodgson and Lucy Whiteley also reached the A Final. They secured a Silver medal in what was one of the closest finishes of the day, just half a second separated second and third place!
Olivia and Lucy’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, with the duo recently featured in a JRN.com article previewing the Junior Sculling Regatta. The article praised their technical strength, resilience under pressure, and international success, noting their Gold medal win at the Coupe de la Jeunesse and GB representation in Beach Sprint Rowing. With their proven ability to perform both on the lake and at sea, they continue to be exciting medal contenders on the national and international circuits. These outstanding performances mark a strong start to the summer Rowing season, and we look forward to seeing what our rowers achieve next!
