RGS Alumna on Target for Success
It is always a pleasure to receive updates about former RGS pupils and we were delighted to hear from 2022 leaver Emelia Hughes who is currently an athlete on the Archery GB’s pathway academy, while also completing an Engineering Apprenticeship with Yamazaki Mazak.
Emelia started her Archery journey back in 2017 with a beginner’s course at Droitwich Archers, and she has never looked back.
Now an established athlete on Archery GB’s pathway academy, she has already won several National indoor and outdoor titles in her age groups and represented Great Britain on four occasions at Under 18 level.
She was selected for the GB Under 21 team for the European Youth Cup in Sofia, Bulgaria and, now shooting at the longer distance of 70m, she was one of the youngest in her age category.
In weather that ranged from 31 degrees during qualification to 10 degrees for the Finals, she had her most successful result to date finishing in 2nd place, and only narrowly missing out on a coveted gold medal.
The sky’s the limit in Archery now for Emelia who is already looking forward to her next international in Slovenia next month, before the European Youth Championships in Romania in July.
Emelia commented, “Archery really is a sport for all, and with several local clubs in the County, why not pop along to one of their open days or beginner courses and give it a go”.
Congratulations to Emelia for her continued success and remarkable achievements!
