Primary Pupils in Perfect Harmony at ‘Let’s Sing’ Event
Last week, the sound of music filled Perrins Hall as 170 children from six local primary schools came together for a morning of singing and musical discovery. Led by RGS Teacher of Music, Mrs Tilling, the workshop began with engaging vocal warm-ups and fun exercises, before introducing pupils to the musical form of the round. In this technique, the same melodic line is layered at different entry points to create a rich, multi-part texture.
Children explored rounds in English, Latin and African languages, learning to sing in harmony while building confidence in vocal performance. The highlight of the morning was a lively rendition of ‘Lava Chicken’ from the Minecraft Movie, a firm favourite with the pupils. For added challenge, a round was incorporated into the song, and the session concluded with a video recording of the final performance, which has been shared with all participating schools as a memento of the day.
Teachers accompanying the pupils were full of praise for the experience:
“A massive thank you for today. The children thoroughly enjoyed it and the staff were absolutely brilliant!”
“I would like to say a huge thank you. The children had a wonderful time and spent the whole afternoon singing the songs.”
Many thanks to Martley CE Primary School, Cherry Orchard Primary School, Our Lady Queen of Peace, Stanley Road Primary School, Whittington Church of England Primary School and Nunnery Wood Primary School for joining us.
