Partnership Rugby Brings Schools Together for Tournament Fun
We were pleased to host our first Year Six Mixed Tag Rugby Coaching Session and Tournament at Flagge Meadow last week, welcoming 40 enthusiastic pupils from local primary schools. The event began with a lively warm-up and a series of skills coaching sessions led by our Sports Department, designed to help the children develop their techniques, build confidence and enjoy learning through sport.
Following the training, pupils took part in a ‘round-robin’ style tournament, where every team had the opportunity to play against each other in a series of fast-paced, exciting matches. Our Sixth Form BTEC Sport students were on hand throughout the day, taking on the vital roles of refereeing and guiding the matches, as well as supporting the younger players with encouragement and advice.
The tournament concluded with medals and certificates presented to the winning team, while all other participants received certificates and a giveaway bag as a token of thanks for their involvement. The atmosphere was further enhanced by the many spectators who came to cheer on the players, creating a wonderful sense of community and celebration.
This new initiative is part of the RGS Partnership Sports programme, designed to provide local children with the opportunity to gain specific Sports skills and experience competition in a fun and supportive environment. The event was provided by RGS and supported by both teaching and non-teaching staff, with catering provided for pupils and spectators.
The benefits of the day extended beyond the pupils taking part. For the local Year Six children, the event was a chance to grow in confidence and enjoyment of sport, while our BTEC Sport students gained valuable leadership and refereeing experience. Bringing together schools, pupils and staff, the event highlighted the value of collaboration, partnership and community in promoting sport and healthy lifestyles for young people.
The success of this year’s Rugby Partnership event ensures it will become an annual fixture in the calendar and we look forward to welcoming even more pupils to Flagge Meadow next year. In the meantime, today we held our Hockey Partnership event and will report back next week in the RGS Times.
