Outstanding Performances by RGS in Hockey
National Cup victory for the Under 14s
The Under 14 Girls’ Hockey team showcased their strength in the National Tier 1 Cup, securing a 3-0 victory over The King’s School Gloucester, in Round 4. The match demonstrated the team’s discipline and focus.
After a tightly contested start, Lilah broke the deadlock late in the first half with a crucial goal, giving the team momentum heading into the break. In the second half, Lara delivered two expertly executed short corner strikes, cementing a well-deserved win for the team.
This victory propels the Under 14s into the quarter-finals, where they will face Clifton College. With their confidence high and their form strong, the team is eager to continue their journey in the competition.
Under 18 Indoor Regionals
The Under 18 Girls’ Hockey team approached the Indoor Hockey Regional Finals with growing confidence after their impressive victory in the County round. Their enthusiasm and determination were evident as they took on some of the country’s top sides.
In the group stage, the team performed admirably, competing against Malvern College, Loughborough High School, and Oundle School. With a strong effort, they secured second place in their group, earning a spot in the semi-finals. This achievement also made RGS Worcester the only Worcestershire school to advance beyond the group stage, with Bromsgrove School, King’s School, and Malvern College all bowing out early.
In the semi-finals, the girls faced a challenging draw against Repton School, a team that would go on to win the tournament. Despite their resilience and impressive spells of play, they were unable to overcome their formidable opponents.
The team should take immense pride in their performance and the way they represented the School. Their skill, sportsmanship, and conduct earned praise from neutral umpires and officials, highlighting the exceptional character and talent of this group.
