Max’s Half Marathon Raises Funds
Year Eight pupil, Max Fenton, recently took on the challenge of running a half marathon in under two hours to support his Under 13 team at Droitwich Rugby Club (RFC). Raising funds for the team’s upcoming Rugby tour and to provide essential video equipment for game analysis Max aimed to make a difference, one stride at a time.
Max loves sport and shared his enthusiasm for his passions: Running and Rugby. He has been part of his Rugby club since the age of four when he joined Rugby Tots, and he is now part of the Under 13 Droitwich RFC team for which plays on the wing or at full-back. Max dreams of becoming a professional athlete or Rugby player.
Max commented: “This year, my Rugby team are going on tour to the Isle of Wight over the May Bank Holiday and the players needed to raise some funds to contribute towards the costs of the tour. I thought I could achieve this by doing something that I love but also take on the biggest challenge I have ever faced physically.”
Max challenged himself to run a half marathon in under 2 hours, sticking to an 11-week training plan which he created to fit in around his other sporting activities and fixtures. His target figure to raise for his Rugby club tour was £65 but he hoped to raise more so that the team could purchase a VEO, an ultimate video camera for team sports, which will enable them to record their matches and watch them back to analyse and reflect upon their performance. Max believes getting a VEO would be immensely beneficial for their learning and development, maximising their efficiency and strengths both individually and as a team.
Max embarked on his mission from Droitwich RFC at the start of April, alongside his Uncle Steve, amidst challenging weather conditions. Despite facing high winds and tough roads, Max remained focused and determined to reach his goal, crossing the finish line after 1 hour and 38 minutes.
Max’s dedication paid off with his impressive finish time and from the overwhelming generosity of his supporters. With a remarkable £700 raised, surpassing his initial target, and an additional £50 pledged by a sponsor.
Max’s mother, Louise Fenton, shared her pride in Max’s accomplishment saying: “I am immensely proud of him, he is working so hard.”
Congratulations to Max for a fantastic achievement, he should be very proud of his efforts. A sub-two-hour half marathon is amazing and completing this in 1 hour 38 minutes is incredibly impressive! Good luck to Max and the several other RGS pupils who make up the Droitwich RFC Under 13 squad as they head off this afternoon to the Isle of Wight for their tournament.
