Olivia and Lucy Impress at Henley Women’s Regatta
Two RGS Lower Sixth rowers, Olivia Hodgson and Lucy Whiteley were back on the water last weekend at the Henley Women’s Regatta. This is the premier regatta for women in the United Kingdom with more than 2,000 rowers from all over the UK and across the world competing in this prestigious event.
Olivia and Lucy competed in the Junior 2x, performed brilliantly in the time trial and progressed to the heat. In the heat, they knocked out Westminster School. They then rowed against Northampton RC in the quarter-final, which they won easily.
In the semi-final, they were drawn against Hartpury College. The Hartpury cew are tough opponents and last month won the National Schools Regatta. Olivia and Lucy pushed Hartpury hard off the start line but couldn’t hold their pace in the middle part of the race.
All the races are timed, and Olivia and Lucy’s semi-final time was the third fastest overall, which was an impressive feat in a field of 30 crews.
Well done to both Lucy and Olivia for such an impressive performance!
