Lovell Brothers Selected for Wildwater Racing World Championships
We are delighted to announce that RGS students Finn (Year Eleven) and Lochie (Upper Sixth) Lovell have both earned selection to represent Great Britain at the Junior and Under 23 Wildwater Racing Canoe and Kayak World Championships. This year’s event will be held in Solkan, Slovenia, from 1 to 5 July, with the Junior and Under 23 Championships taking place simultaneously as separate competitions.
Finn will compete in the Sprint and Classic kayak disciplines, tackling fast-flowing rapids over 400 metres in the Sprint and 3.5 kilometres in the Classic race. Lochie will race in the single kayak events as well as in the double canoe Sprint and Classic races. The kayak events require a double-ended paddle, while canoeists kneel and use a single-ended paddle.
This follows Lochie’s participation in the world’s longest non-stop canoe race, the Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Marathon. Spanning 125 miles and navigating 77 locks, the race is a true test of physical and mental endurance. Competing in the Junior Doubles category with his paddling partner Fletcher Cramer of Southampton Kayak Club, Lochie not only completed this formidable challenge but together with his teammate won the race, finishing ahead of 38 other boats.
With top teams from across the world competing at the highest level, this represents an exceptional opportunity for Finn and Lochie to showcase their skills on the international stage. We congratulate them both on their outstanding achievement and wish them every success in Slovenia.
