ISFA Recognition for Three RGS Football Players
We are delighted to share the achievements of Year Eleven pupils Max Kilby and Theo Houston, who were selected to play for the Independent Schools (ISFA) Under 16 National team in a prestigious three-day tournament held at Stamford School. The competition featured teams from the USA, Ireland, and English Football League Academies. The ISFA team performed well, remaining unbeaten across four matches in the first two days. However, the team narrowly missed out on a spot in the final, losing to eventual champions Plymouth Argyle FC in the semi-finals.
Max and Theo made significant contributions, with Max scoring a superb goal and Theo demonstrating his skills with an excellent penalty save. Their impressive performances earned them places in an ISFA trial match against Kent Schools FA during the Michaelmas Half term at Ardingly College. In a closely contested game that ended in a 1-0 victory, both players impressed once again.
As a result of their performance, Max and Theo have been selected for the ISFA squad for upcoming international fixtures and have been invited to a two-day ISFA training camp in December at St George’s Park, the home of the England Football Association. This camp will prepare the team for matches against Australia and Wales in 2025.
Year Nine pupil Max Pearce also represented the ISFA Football team in a thrilling match against the Arsenal Development Centre. Max entered the game in the second half with the score tied at 1-1. His strong defensive performance helped the ISFA team secure a 4-1 victory, ensuring a clean sheet in the second half as his side dominated the match.
Congratulations to Max Kilby, Theo Houston, and Max Pearce on their remarkable achievements! Their success highlights the strength of Football at RGS and the dedication of our players, who have excelled in an intensely competitive selection process to earn national recognition.
