Independent School Of The Year Award
We are delighted to share that The RGS Worcester Family of Schools has been awarded the prestigious title of ‘Independent School of the Year for Outstanding Educational Partnerships’ for 2023-24. This award celebrates the fantastic work our Schools have done to create partnerships that benefit both our pupils and the wider community, locally and globally and has been reported in Worcester News today.
At the heart of these efforts is our commitment to building strong relationships with over 30 local primary schools, reaching more than 1,200 pupils each year. These partnerships provide exciting opportunities for pupils to participate in a wide range of activities, from STEM competitions and Olympic-themed sports events to creative arts workshops and drama productions.
Our four schools – RGS Worcester, RGS The Grange, RGS Dodderhill, and RGS Springfield—work together to offer enriching experiences throughout the year. This includes everything from kite-building workshops to foreign language carousels, giving local children access to fun and innovative learning opportunities.
“Our partnerships are deeply rooted in the local community, and we take great pride in extending the benefits of our resources and expertise to as many schools as possible,” said Mr John Pitt, Headmaster of RGS Worcester. “From specialist sports coaching by our Olympic medalist staff to cultural exchanges with schools in Ghana, these initiatives enhance the education of participating schools and also enrich the experiences of our pupils.”
This year, RGS Worcester also strengthened its global partnerships, especially with the Talensi Community Development Foundation in Ghana. Staff members have visited the region to teach, offer training to local teachers, and donate over 60 iPads to schools in need. Pupils at RGS The Grange regularly connect online with their peers in Ghana, building cultural understanding and friendships. Locally, our Director of Innovation has led AI training sessions, impacting 750 teachers in both state and independent schools.
These initiatives are having a big impact on our own pupils, helping them to develop key skills such as leadership, communication, and cultural awareness, preparing them for the challenges of the 21st Century. We believe that by working together with others, we are not only making a difference in education but also developing a strong sense of community.
Our commitment to inclusivity extends beyond the classroom as well. The Schools’ sports facilities are regularly used by local clubs, including ‘Inclusion Rugby’ and West Mercia Women’s Aid, and our Performing Arts Centre hosts events including the Worcester Competitive Arts Festival and Young Fashion Designer UK.
We are extremely proud of this award, which recognises the hard work and dedication of our staff, students, and everyone involved in making these partnerships a success. It reflects our ongoing commitment to creating an exceptional educational experience and making a positive impact on the world around us.
