Higher Education Evening Prepares Lower Sixth
Yesterday, we welcomed Lower Sixth students and their parents to Perrins Hall for the annual Higher Education Evening, marking the beginning of an important stage in their academic journey. The event provided valuable insights into the university application process and Higher Degree Apprenticeships, with expert guidance from the RGS team.
UCAS Co-ordinator, Mr Tim Hallett, outlined the key steps in applying to university, covering deadlines and ways in which parents can support their child’s application. Head of Careers, Mrs Audrey Williams, introduced Higher Degree Apprenticeships, explaining what they entail, factors to consider, and how to explore available opportunities. She also highlighted the Careers Department’s ongoing support. Head of Sixth Form, Mr Evetts, addressed student finance, offering clarity about tuition fees, student loans, and parental contributions.
Following the presentations, students and parents enjoyed refreshments and had the opportunity to speak informally with staff and ask questions. The students will attend the Careers & Higher Education EXPO next week to explore their options further and, with Personal Statement preparation now underway, they are entering a pivotal phase of their Sixth Form experience. Tutors, the Sixth Form Team, and the Careers Department will continue to provide guidance throughout the application process, including on final Results Day and beyond. Parents are welcome to contact the School at any stage to discuss their child’s post-RGS plans.
Thank you to everyone who attended and to the staff and Catering Team for their contributions to a successful evening.
Mr Mark Evetts, Head of Sixth Form
