Golfers Compete in Close-Fought ISGA Semi-Final
RGS golfers recently competed against Warwick School in the ISGA (Independent Schools Golf Association) Golf Area Plate semi-final at Leamington & County Golf Club. The match was fiercely contested, with both teams delivering strong performances, with the result decided by just a single point.
Year Eleven pupil Max Wesley was the first player for RGS, shooting +6 and earning 36 Stapleford points. Year Eight pupil William Webber followed, putting in a solid performance to score 37 points. Year Seven pupil Edward Perry, playing third, produced an excellent round for the team with an impressive 41 points, giving RGS an aggregate total of 114 Stapleford points. Warwick’s team also delivered a strong showing, with their first player playing off a handicap of 3, their second off 2, and their third off 8. Together, they managed to secure 115 Stapleford points, just enough to edge out RGS by a single point in an incredibly close encounter.
Although it was a close loss for the team, they can take away plenty of positives from their performance. Well played to all involved – it was particularly impressive to see our Junior golfers stepping up against Sixth Form competitors.
In other Golf news, Year Seven pupil Edward Perry’s first match for RGS has followed an outstanding year for him. Edward played in the final of the Winners’ Cup on Sunday 9 February, at Pine Cliffs Golf Club in Portugal, Albufeira. He played some outstanding Golf and managed to finish in 2nd place in the Under 14 category. His putter was on form during the back nine and he shot a personal best of 82 gross. Edward has some big tournaments coming up in 2025. He will be playing in the Under 14 West of England Championships and also travelling to Ireland in July to play in the Junior World Golf Championships, having qualified last season. We wish Edward all the very best for the season ahead.
Thank you to all parents who have recently shared Handicaps details for their children. Please do keep me informed about any pupils’ Golf successes as the weather warms up!
