Girls’ Hockey is a Sporting Success in England National Competition
The Under 18 A team are leading the way for Girls’ Hockey at RGS Worcester, competing in the England Hockey Tier 2 Cup Competition.
The team opened their Cup Competition success with a 4-0 win over Bromsgrove School and went on to defeat Cheltenham College 6-1 in the second round of the England National Cup.
Prior to round three of the Cup, the Under 18 A team played Princethorpe College in a friendly. Despite losing, this extremely physical and fast-paced game provided the learning experience required to prepare the team for round three of the England Hockey cup, in which we hosted Malvern College at the Worcester International Hockey Centre. Going 1-0 down in the game the team continued to play consistently well and with great composure to win 2-1.
Head of Hockey at RGS Worcester, Leanne Bennett, said “Although we have seen success in the Plate Competition in previous years, this is the furthest an RGS Senior Team has made it in the England Hockey Championships. It really is an outstanding achievement of which the whole team should be proud.”
From 32 teams in the West region, the team is down to the last four and will play Bristol Grammar School to compete for a place in the National quarter-finals. These will be contested by the remaining eight most successful school teams from the 128 teams across the country that entered the competition.
The squad has included:
Jessica Potter, Lucy Garrard, Ellie Nicholls, Teyah Farmer, Alice Atkinson, Emily Harper, Poppy Hobson, Elyssia Letori, Kaylani Zulkiplee, Ana Nicholls, Lottie Nicholls, Alex Friend, Amelia Bentley-Hughes, Katy Pitt, Mya Walford, Vicki Hearn, Amy Brinkley, Eleanor Fawcett
