Geographers Enjoy River Studies in the Shropshire Hills
On Wednesday this week, 76 Year Ten pupils embarked on an educational field trip to Carding Mill Valley in Shropshire to study the changes in the River Onny downstream. They collected various measurements, including velocity (using Mr Newport’s dog’s dog biscuits!), bedload, width and depth. The hands-on experience provided valuable insights into river dynamics and geomorphology.
In addition to data collection, pupils took the opportunity to revise their general knowledge of rivers for the physical environment topic for GCSE, preparing them well for their exams next summer.
After a productive day of learning and data collection, the students were rewarded with ice cream on the roof terrace of the National Trust café. Their hard work and enthusiasm were met with extremely positive comments from members of the public who were out enjoying the sunshine.
