First Place for Frankie in Fashion Final
We are delighted to announce that Sixth Form student Frankie Reed was awarded First Place in the ‘Fashion Icon’ Competition, a national school competition open to all pupils aged 13-18 years. The competition, organised by ICHF Events, tasks participants each year to explore a unique theme. This year’s theme was ‘For the Love of Vivienne’, which saw entrants explore the creative fashions inspired by the iconic designer Dame Vivienne Westwood.
Frankie’s remarkable talent was evident in both her design sheets and her final catwalk piece, which stole the show. Judge David Morrish, a designer and colleague of Dame Vivienne Westwood, praised Frankie’s natural flair demonstrated in her research and design work. He emphasised that all the judges were thoroughly impressed and had no doubt that Frankie deserved First Place.
Frankie commented: “Although it was completely out of my comfort zone, I decided to model my design myself so I could adjust it to myself. It was an honour to be awarded first place and I enjoyed speaking to the judge, David Morrish who gave me advice and told me more about his career, which I found really interesting. Overall, it was a really inspiring and exciting experience”.
Head of Textiles, Mrs Jo Bishop commented: “Frankie has done remarkably well and we are all really proud of her. She has worked so hard to create her final piece ahead of the catwalk event at The Fashion, Embroidery and Stitch Show and she was an excellent ambassador for our School. The judges were very complimentary about Frankie’s work and the high standard to which she presented both her design ideas and practical piece”.
Frankie was presented with two Janome sewing machines, one for herself and another for the School, and a range of top-quality products from Madeira Threads and Vilene fabrics.
Remarkably, RGS Worcester students have won this national competition for two years in a row. Congratulations to Frankie and our Textiles department for this fantastic achievement!
