‘Fashion Fantasia’ for Ruby and Beth
We are pleased to share that Year Eight pupils, Ruby Li and Beth Sweeney, took to the catwalk earlier this term, as part of ‘Fashion Fantasia’, a collaborative project between the Worcester sustainability charity, Remade and the Inkberrow Design Centre.
The project aimed to inspire young people to design their own fantastical costumes based on a favourite film, genre or character and then be guided by volunteer experts to gain the skills and knowledge to transform their ideas into reality, all using reclaimed and donated materials from the Remade resource centre.
When complete, Ruby and Beth were given the opportunity to wear their costumes on the catwalk, both at the History and Heritage Pod at the Crowngate Shopping Centre and at the Fashion, Embroidery & Stitch Show held at the NEC in Birmingham.
Beth said: “The design and making process took about 1-2 months; it was stressful at times but also relaxing. The first competition was in the Crowngate Shopping Centre in Worcester. It was amazing as we saw all the costumes. The second competition was at the Fashion, Embroidery & Stitch Show at the NEC in Birmingham. This was fantastic as there was so much to see and many workshops to attend. We also modelled our outfits: if you cannot tell, I am Cruella de Vil!”
Congratulations to Ruby and Beth for this achievement. They have both shown great determination and skill by participating in this project!
