DIY Drama Company – together again
‘DIY’ is the RGS Worcester resident Scholars Drama company. Set up in 2015, Scholars work in the Lent term towards a production which is directed by the Director of Drama, Mrs Witcomb, but everything else is run and managed by the students.
Due to the pandemic, the last DIY production of ‘Macbeth’ was sadly cancelled just days before opening night, and social distancing restrictions have meant that the Company have been unable to meet in-person, as DIY Company members range from Year Seven to Upper Sixth pupils.

Monday night marked the company’s first workshop for 18 months. With new Scholars joining, the 34 strong company spent two hours taking part in a ‘Frantic Assembly’ style warm up and performance, followed by their self-developed ensemble opening to five different plays. It was a fantastic evening and exciting to see the incredible talent of these young people. Below are a number of quotes from some of our new and established Scholars about the experience:
“I thoroughly enjoyed my first DIY Drama Company workshop today. I felt happy and comfortable working alongside others in different Year groups, producing a scene we devised ourselves, before performing to the other groups.”

“The workshop was an amazing opportunity to get to know and work with other Drama Scholars from other Year groups. I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and working as a big ensemble.”
“Today’s workshop was such a wonderful opportunity to meet the new Scholars, and to work again with old friends. It is so exciting that we are able to build this creative community within RGS across all Year groups, and I have continually looked to my fellow DIY Company members for inspiration. The practical workshop culminated in several scripted performances, staging the opening of potential scripts for our upcoming production in March. I am so excited to see what we will create together this year, particularly as it is my final year in the Company.”
“It was a fantastic afternoon meeting new Scholars, working in a unified way to develop our creative and performance skills.”
“I found it really beneficial as I got to know and meet the younger, new Scholars. Everyone got along so well and were enthusiastic for the performance to come.”
