Cricket Success Across the School
It has been a promising start to the Cricket season for RGS, with impressive results and individual performances across multiple teams.
Last week, the Lower School teams made a strong opening against Bromsgrove School (Boys) and The Elms (Girls), with a combined total of six wins and just two losses.
There was also a heartening moment at RGS The Grange, where two enthusiastic cricketers stepped in as last-minute substitutes for the Under 14 Boys’ teams while supporting their brothers. Both RGS The Grange players rose to the occasion, delivering strong performances, with Jude Rea notably taking two wickets. Their commitment and readiness to play at short notice impressed all involved, and their contributions were greatly appreciated by teammates and staff alike. We extend our thanks and hope they will be packing their whites for every future match, just in case!
Meanwhile, the Boys’ 1st XI continued their superb form in the National T20 competition, progressing to Round 3 after a dominant win over Old Swinford Hospital (OSH). Choosing to bat first, RGS posted a commanding 248 for 3 in 20 overs, with George Heywood scoring a superb 115 from just 58 balls and George Hallam adding an excellent 77. In reply, OSH were dismissed for 125, thanks in large part to Tom Odell’s exceptional bowling figures of 5 wickets for 14 runs from 3.5 overs. The 1st XI now eagerly awaits confirmation of their next fixture.
The Girls’ 1st XI has also played two fixtures so far this term against Malvern College and King’s School Worcester. It has been great to see the Girls representing the School in Cricket at this level with students from Years Nine, Ten, Eleven and the Sixth Form playing alongside and supporting one another. We are delighted that Girls’ Cricket is now fully embedded at RGS across the age groups and at Senior level.
Following a comprehensive away win against Wrekin College in the preliminary round of the Cricket Paper National 100 Ball competition last week, the Under 15 Girls faced a strong Cheltenham College side on Tuesday this week. After posting a total of 88 from our 100 balls, with a notable batting performance from Anya Peddareddy, Cheltenham’s batters proved too strong, successfully chasing down the target. Despite the result, the girls represented the School with great determination and spirit, with several players playing above their age group. They should be proud of the way they conducted themselves throughout both matches.
