Cadets Take to the Skies at RAF Cosford
RAF Cosford recently provided an incredible opportunity for a group of RGS Cadets to experience the thrill of flying. For some, it was their first chance to take to the skies, making it an unforgettable experience. Year Eleven pupil Oliver Jukes shares the following report below:
“Our visit to RAF Cosford was an unforgettable experience, with some of us finally getting the chance to take to the skies. Among the six Cadets in our group—Ethan Taylor, Rebecca Gardner, Henry Sheffield, Ozzy Beswick, Libby Cox, and myself—four were selected to fly: Ethan, Rebecca, Henry, and I.
Before taking off, we participated in emergency procedure checks, ensuring we were fully prepared for the experience. These were successfully completed, and soon, it was time to meet our RAF pilots and board the Grob Tutor M1, a sleek training aircraft used to teach Cadets how to fly.
We took turns in the air, starting with Rebecca, followed by Ethan, myself, and finally Henry. Flying was an exhilarating and awe-inspiring experience. The view from above was both serene and thrilling, and each of us had the opportunity to take control of the aircraft to perform basic manoeuvres. We practised pitch (moving up and down), rolls (turning left and right), and even aerobatic stunts like loops.
All of us who flew shared the excitement and joy, and we agreed it was well worth the wait. It was a day we’ll never forget and a fantastic highlight of our time so far as Cadets in the RAF Section of the CCF”.
