Athletics Success Across the Board for RGS
The Athletics season is well underway, and RGS Worcester athletes have already achieved an impressive set of results across a variety of events and competitions, demonstrating both talent and determination.
At the Under 17 Worcestershire Athletics Championships, Elizabeth Bryant delivered a commanding performance, securing first place in both the High Jump (1.38m) and Long Jump (4.35m). Will Higgs soared to second place in the High Jump with a personal best of 1.75m and Charlie Rucinski claimed third place with a time of 29.4 seconds in his event.
At the Under 13 Winterfold Invitational, the Under 13 Boys’ team came out on top, finishing in 1st place, while the Under 13 Girls placed 3rd in a competitive field. Notable individual winners included Ben Bean (1500m, 04:57), Katie Harte (1500m and 800m), Oscar Hewitt (300m and 200m), Jake Day (800m), Harriet Skidmore (Javelin, 19.89m) and Noah Oakes (Shotput).
A strong RGS Worcester presence was also seen at the Under 13/Under 15 ESAA Bromsgrove competition, where an incredible 47 athletes took part. Team results saw the Junior Girls and Junior Boys both place 3rd, the Inter Girls finish 4th, and the Inter Boys secure 3rd. One of the most notable achievements of the day was a clean sweep of first place finishes in the Junior Girls, Junior Boys, and Inter Boys relay events – all won convincingly.
The Under 15 Worcestershire Athletics Championships continued the trend of outstanding performances. Georgina Collins, competing a year above her age group, took first place in the High Jump, while Hamish Ebbage claimed second in the Long Jump with a leap of 4.52m. In the Javelin, Will Terry threw 30.05m to take first place, followed by Ewan Nolan in second (27.19m). RGS athletes dominated the Discus too, with Gabby Kavanah taking first place (18.95m) and a clean sweep in the Boys’ category from Will Terry (2nd, 21.86m) and Ruben Coleman (3rd, 20.86m). In the Shotput, Will Battle-Welch took first place with 10.35m, followed by Jack Vickers in second (10.05m) and Naomi B securing second place in the girls’ event (8.63m).
It has been a tremendous start to the Athletics season, and these results are a reflection of the commitment, skill, and competitive spirit of our athletes. We look forward to seeing what the rest of the season holds.
