A Memorable Day at The Super Sixes
On Sunday, Head of Hockey, Miss Sally Walton OLY and her Buckingham side participated in the Super Sixes at the Derby Arena. Having finished third in the league stages of the competition, scoring 14 goals in the process, all eyes were on whether Buckingham could make it to the final. Miss Walton, who has attended the indoor finals for the past eleven consecutive years and finished as the top scorer in seven of those years, had spent most of the past eleven months recovering from extensive hamstring reattachment surgery.
The semi-final finished 5-5, and Buckingham eventually lost in the penalty shootout.
Reflecting on the weekend, Miss Walton said, “Obviously, I am gutted to miss out on a place in the final and by such a close margin; however, this time last year, I was told I may never run again. My frustration is crowned with profound joy to be back out there playing my sport at the top level and enjoying the chance to play in these types of games.”
In attendance were RGS Hockey players who came along to watch and support Miss Walton. They enjoyed six high-class indoor hockey games, had the opportunity to meet senior Great Britain players, and even got autographs. A highlight of the trip was seeing Miss Walton in action. As an added surprise, Miss Walton arranged for some of the pupils to act as mascots for her club side during the semi-final and so they walked out with the players onto the pitch. Thank you to Mr Bousfield and Mrs Moss for leading the trip, congratulations to Miss Walton and we look forward to organising this experience again next year.
