17th Modus Challenge Cup Match at Sixways Stadium Awaits
Excitement is mounting at RGS as the 1st XV Rugby squad prepares to compete in this year’s greatly anticipated Modus Challenge Cup match. The RGS Worcester team will play against King’s School at the impressive Sixways Stadium at 2.00pm on Sunday 8 December.
Now in its 17th year, this annual event is one of the highlights of the School calendar, providing an opportunity for both teams to show their pace and power on the pitch. The opportunity to play at Sixways Stadium is one that the players will never forget, and the RGS team and supporters eagerly anticipate the fixture. The 1st XV can be encouraged by the 2nd XV whose performance on Thursday evening resulted in a 27-19 win for RGS. The match, which was played at Worcester Rugby Club, involved challenging weather conditions for both teams with torrential rain and high winds. The RGS team had to dig deep to win the game, defending heroically and seizing their chances.
Looking towards the match this Sunday, Captain of the 1st XV Rugby squad, Findlay Nichol, commented: “As we approach the Modus Challenge Cup match, the squad has been working extremely hard with our coaching staff both on and off the pitch so we can put in a good performance on Sunday. From the very beginning of the season, this fixture has been circled in the calendar, and there is always excitement and anticipation during the build up as we play matches during the last few weekends before we represent the School at the prestigious Sixways Stadium. It will be an honour for all players involved to play in front of the School, families, and friends and a memory that will last a lifetime for us all.”
Vice-Captain Joshua Griffiths added: “As the Modus Challenge Cup match draws upon us, our excitement as a squad continues to grow as we prepare to represent the School at Sixways Stadium. Competing in an event like the Modus Cup match is an incredible privilege, and doing so alongside such a dedicated and hardworking squad makes it even more momentous. We eagerly anticipate Sunday, where we aim to bring our preparation and effort to life, hopefully demonstrating our commitment and teamwork.”
Final comments came from Vice-Captain Liam Chadwick, who said: “It’s a great honour to represent RGS and play in this fixture at Sixways Stadium, especially alongside such a dedicated team. We cannot wait for Sunday when we will have the chance to put our hard work into practice and deliver a performance that reflects this effort.”
