Computer Science Students Explore Theme Park Technology
Our Year Ten GCSE Computer Science students recently enjoyed an exciting and educational trip to Alton Towers, where they saw first-hand how key programming concepts such as sensors, sequences and selection are used in the real world.
As part of their curriculum, pupils study the fundamentals of computational thinking and system design. At Alton Towers, pupils explored how these principles are embedded within ride control systems, queue management technologies and safety mechanisms. From infrared sensors detecting ride occupancy, to the carefully sequenced operations that launch rollercoasters and the use of selection in decision-making algorithms, the park became a living classroom for our pupils.
It was a fantastic day of fun, learning and discovery, proving that Computer Science is not just about code on a screen, but about solving real problems in creative and impactful ways.
Pupils left inspired, with a deeper appreciation for how their classroom knowledge translates into real-world innovation.
