Digital Genius Team Showcase EdTech Excellence
This week, The RGS Worcester Family of Schools’ pupil Digital Genius Team captivated an audience of 120 Primary Education trainee students from the University of Worcester with a series of outstanding presentations on the role of educational technology in modern teaching. The event, opened by Headmaster Mr John Pitt, was led by Mr Gareth Hughes, Headmaster of RGS The Grange, alongside Assistant Head and Director of Innovation & RGSW International, Mr John Jones, and Mr Matthew Warne, Head of Computing and Digital Learning at RGS The Grange. The Digital Genius Team played a key role in demonstrating first-hand how digital learning empowers pupils and transforms education.
At RGS Worcester, we believe that education should be about more than just academic study: it should inspire, engage, and prepare pupils for the real world. Our Digital Learning Programme (DLP) is at the heart of this philosophy, equipping pupils with the tools and skills they need to succeed in an increasingly digital landscape. It was inspiring to watch our Digital Genius Team lead discussions with future educators, demonstrating not only their technological expertise but also their confidence, leadership, and ability to collaborate effectively.
For the University of Worcester students in attendance, this event provided a glimpse into how digital tools can transform classroom management. Furthermore, it reiterated the importance of digital teaching and learning to the next generation of teachers. They saw how platforms like Apple Classroom and Showbie enable our teachers to streamline lesson planning, provide digital feedback, and develop structured workflows. But beyond efficiency, what matters most is how these tools support independent learning, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving—something our pupils demonstrated with enthusiasm and skill.
We also explored emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), and Virtual Reality (VR), all of which are starting to reinvent the way our pupils learn. AI literacy is becoming a vital skill and, at RGS Worcester, we are dedicated to ensuring that our pupils and teachers use these advancements responsibly and effectively. Mr Jones explained the ethical considerations and future potential of AI and reinforced the importance of preparing both pupils and teachers for a constantly evolving digital world.
At The RGS Worcester Family of Schools, we know that education goes beyond textbooks and tests. We are committed to developing well-rounded individuals who are academically successful and equipped with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive in a technology-driven future. Watching our pupils take centre stage and lead this event was a proud moment, as they taught future teachers! This is testament to the power of digital learning and the bright future ahead for RGS pupils and the future educators they helped inspire.
