Lower School Prepare to Perform in a Swashbuckling Spectacle
Excitement is mounting for the upcoming Summer production, marking the culmination of the academic year. With less than a week remaining until ‘Treasure Island’ takes to the stage, our pupils are eagerly preparing. This year, for the first time, the Summer Production will showcase the talents of our Year sSeven and Eight pupils.
‘Treasure Island’ by Robert Louis Stevenson is a thrilling novel from 1883 that follows the adventures of young Jim Hawkins as he discovers a treasure map in a pirate’s chest. Determined and daring, Jim embarks on a perilous journey to uncover the buried riches of ‘Treasure Island’. Alongside a crew of colourful characters, including the enigmatic Long John Silver, Jim navigates treacherous seas, battles mutiny, and confronts the greed and betrayal guarding the hidden treasure. Packed with swashbuckling action, high-stakes suspense, and themes of loyalty and bravery, ‘Treasure Island’ remains an exhilarating tale of adventure and discovery that captivates readers to this day.
Headmaster, Mr John Pitt comments: “While children now have far more excellent adventure stories available to read these days, I am sure that ‘Treasure Island’ still features as a favourite for many. Certainly, it is one of my earliest memories of reading and I know I was enthralled by the tale. I know that the cast and crew have really enjoyed bringing this adventure to the stage and it is wonderful to see so many Lower School pupils keen to be involved. There have been more Drama productions than ever before at RGS Worcester during this academic year 2023-24 and we look forward to this latest performance starring our younger pupils. Thank you to Director Mr Garrity and to all the staff who have helped behind the scenes as well as the talented pupils!”
Director, Mr Jak Garrity comments: “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with our Years Seven and Eight pupils and, as always, have been impressed by their enthusiasm, confidence and positive attitude. ‘Treasure Island’ is a fun, dark and exciting adventure.”
The leads will rotate to give more pupils the chance to take on key roles in an RGS production, so two pupils will play ‘Jim Hawkins’ on different nights:
Lilah Morgan, who plays one of the ‘Jim Hawkins’, said: “I am so excited to be playing the part of ‘Jim’ and loved working with such an amazing cast. We have all worked so hard to make it so special and we hope you enjoy the adventure!”
Eva Davies who will also play ‘Jim Hawkins’ said: “I am very excited to be playing ‘Jim Hawkins’ in this production of ‘Treasure Island’. This is my second show at RGS, and I cannot wait to be able to perform in more plays throughout my time at School.”
Amy Higgins who plays ‘Long John Silver said’: “I am in Year Eight and I am very excited to be playing ‘Long John Silver’ in this production of ‘Treasure Island’. This is my second show at RGS, and I cannot wait to be able to perform in more plays throughout my time at School.”
