The Sky’s the Limit for Year Six!
Last week, The RGS Textiles Department welcomed pupils from RGS The Grange for a fun-filled morning of crafting and creativity. The Year Six pupils were treated to a taste of what life is like in the Senior school and experienced a fantastic kite-making workshop with Mrs Bishop and Mrs Matthews. After spending a morning learning how to use a sewing machine, and learning more about Senior school activities, pupils returned to The Grange to fly their newly finished kites.
The children had been working on their kites all term, designing, painting, and cutting the fabric for their kites. All that remained was to assemble the kites, so they were excited for their sewing machine lesson in the Senior School. With the expert guidance of Mrs Bishop and Mrs Matthews, they were able to sew their kite designs together, adding the spars and kite lines so they were ready for flying on return to The Grange. Mrs Anna Pitt, Head of Design & Technology at RGS The Grange said, “The children thoroughly enjoyed their morning in the Senior School, learning new skills to sew their kite designs together. Thank you to Mrs Bishop and Mrs Matthews for a fantastic workshop experience“.
Mrs Jo Bishop, Head of Textiles at RGS Worcester, added, “The pupils quickly learned how to use the sewing machines to complete their kites. They were very enthusiastic to develop new skills and to learn about the creative activities on offer in the Senior School – before returning to RGS The Grange for a well-earned kite flying session. Very well done to the Year Six pupils!”.
