RGS Dodderhill Preparatory School

Pupils move into the section at the beginning of Year Three and stay within the pastoral care of the Preparatory schools’ tutor team until the end of Year Six. Girls are organised into small classes within each year group and have a dedicated Form Tutor to deal with their pastoral and academic needs.

The Pastoral tutor team is co-ordinated by the Deputy of the Preparatory School who manages Tutor time and ensures that new pupils are fully and quickly integrated into life here at RGS Dodderhill girls independent school.

In the Preparatory School, we focus on a smooth journey into adolescence from Year Three to Year Six building girls’ confidence, self-esteem and a positive growth-mindset, whilst also striving for high academic success and personal development. Now is the time for challenge and academic growth and girls are stretched and supported to achieve across academic areas. We are particularly proud of our girls’ strengths in the Sciences and Mathematics and find that our pupils approach these subjects with enthusiasm. Equally, children who are creative and enjoy Art, Music or performance are very well-catered for.

With a focus on the future, digital literacy is valued at RGS Dodderhill with a coding club, iPads integrated into learning and our new Apple suite taking centre stage, as part of our Digital Learning Programme.

Our comprehensive range of co-curricular activities and small, supportive environment means that all pupils are able to develop a range of interests. Girls are encouraged to try activities that they may have never considered and when individuals excel, we are proud to support their development and participation at both a national and international level. Recent examples include pupils achieving membership of the GB Sailing Team, gymnastics success at the ISA National Championships and art exhibited at MOMA, Wales.

When they leave the Prep School, girls are ready to tackle their GCSE courses with a positive attitude and the correct ‘tools’ to deal with the changes and raised expectations we are now seeing in the new GCSE frameworks.

The Preparatory Section of RGS Dodderhill girls independent school is a lively and bustling place when it comes to our extra-curricular activities. Back in the classroom, our focus remains on providing highly academic lessons, fully supporting the range of abilities seen within all of our pupils, whilst developing independent strong women of the future.

We are proud to have achieved the highest rating of ‘Excellent’ across all areas in our most recent ISI inspection (March 2017). Read our inspection report.
