Co-Curricular for Prep
RGS Dodderhill School offers a wide and varied programme of extra-curricular opportunities for the girls to get involved with at lunchtimes and after school. From Year Five they can participate in a range of competitive sports such as netball, hockey, rounders, athletics and gymnastics and girls regularly qualify for National level finals in many of the sports we offer here.
Fun sporting activities are also offered for those wishing to participate at a more recreational level in such areas as football, dance and keep fit.
Away from sport, RGS Dodderhill offers LAMDA and music lessons, taught by peripatetic staff and exams are entered at different points throughout the year when girls are ready. We are highly successful in these areas of the performing arts and many girls finish their time in the Preparatory Section with high levels of exam success. Once these exams reach Grade 6, points can be accrued towards university placement at the appropriate time.
Each year the school puts on a fully staged production, which in the past has included ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘Oliver’, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ and ‘Annie’ and all pupils in this section of the school are encouraged to be involved on stage and backstage as well as performing in the orchestra alongside the Head of Music.
At the end of the school day, Year Five and Six pupils who are not taking part in organised activities can be looked after by our fully qualified after-school care team until 6.00 pm. This is a chargeable activity but offers the opportunity to complete homework tasks as well as to relax and play games and take part in craft activities.
Older pupils in Years Seven and Eight are given the opportunity to attend our supervised homework session which is available for pupils from Year Seven to Year Eleven. Here girls can complete homework in a quiet, scholarly environment whilst being fully supervised by a member of our teaching staff. This is a popular facility with our older Prep girls as it allows them to complete their studies before they get home, enabling them to enjoy important rest and relaxation when they leave school for the day. This is available as part of the school fees and runs until 6.00pm when the school closes.
