Forest School is an inspirational philosophy which, with regular lessons, offers pupils opportunities to develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.
Springfield’s beautiful grounds are unusual for a city centre school. Our green oasis, surrounded as it is by hedges, also includes a dedicated Forest School area. This has a mud kitchen, digging pit, willow bothy and a myriad of log piles and trees. Within exciting and stimulating lessons, children build dens, have fun, but most importantly build empathy with the natural world around them.
Our specialist teachers are passionate about the outdoors and share their love with the children at every opportunity. The whole school enjoys an annual Forest School day, with woodwhittling, storytelling and cooking on the camp fire. It is a lovely occasion for the whole school to come together in our grounds.
