The Foundation Trustees have responsibility for the management of the two bursary funds; the A R Wheeler Bursary Fund and the Alice Ottley Bursary Fund.
These two funds are used to pool together donations of all sizes, to support additional bursary places at the School. The sustained capital growth of these two funds is the best long-term approach to securing additional bursary places at the School.
The capital in the funds is preserved while the annual income generated by each fund is allocated to support the cost of school fees for bursary recipients. Each year the Foundation Trustees will award the income available from the Funds to support bursary places that are part of the 20/20 Bursary Campaign. This means that previous donations and ongoing regular gifts will continue to support pupils as requested by the donors.
The A R Wheeler Bursary Fund is named in honour of the legendary RGSW Second Master and Whiteladies Boarding House Master, Anthony Reay Wheeler (ARW) who taught at the School for his entire career, 1950-1987. ARW left a major legacy gift in 2012 to support bursaries at the School. It has been making bursary payments since 2013 and its capital base has grown in value by £100,000 in four years.
The Alice Ottley Bursary Fund was named in honour of the pioneering Headmistress who set up the Worcester High School for Girls in 1883. The first beneficiary of this fund is now studying at University after joining in the Sixth Form with the support of an Alice Ottley Bursary. The Fund has grown by £65,000 in four years.
