About the Foundation

The Foundations Purpose

The RGSW and AOS Foundation was established in 2016 as a separate charity (no 1170217) from the School. The Foundation’s purpose is to raise additional voluntary income that is used exclusively to support the aims of RGS Worcester. The Foundation Board of Trustees oversee the work of the Foundation Office which is run by employees of the School.

The Foundation’s Objectives

The Foundation’s key objectives are:

  • To extend the number of pupils able to attend the School by providing additional bursary support (assistance with school fees)
  • To raise funds towards capital (building) projects that improve and enhance the School for its pupils and the local community, such as the International Hockey Centre developed by RGS in conjunction with Worcester Hockey Club and Worcester City Council.
  • To provide hardship grants for pupils who may require relatively small financial awards to enable them to participate in academic workshops linked to their studies, to provide equipment, including uniforms, to pupils in receipt of bursaries and to help fund their travel on sports tours where necessary.

The Foundation seeks support from alumni, parents, staff and friends of the School. Gift Aid can be claimed on qualifying donations to increase the value of each gift further, and gifts can be made online (see the Foundation website), by Bacs transfer or by cheque.

The Board of Trustees comprises:

Tim Curtis (Chair), Andrew Greenway, Rosemary Ham, Gary Rouse, Jonny Arr, Kate Wormington, Michael Bourne, Yvonne Wood and John Gibson.

Our Foundation Team

The Foundation Office runs the fundraising activities for the Foundation and also handles all alumni relations matters for the School and maintains the Archives.

Roles of the Foundation Office

The Foundation Office comprises:

  • Scott MacDonald (Foundation Director)

  • Sophie Borrillo-McLellan (Development and Alumni Relations Manager)

  • Helen Kirk (Foundation Office Assistant)

  • Debbie Holbeche (Database Administrator)

Fundraising activities are undertaken by the Office on behalf of the Foundation. The Trustees regularly forward available funds raised to the School to support its work while ensuring that gifts are only ever used for the purposes expressed by each donor.

The Foundation Office organises a number of events where alumni can reconnect with the School and their fellow former pupils. An Alumni Annual Review is published along with the Annual Giving Report. To join the mailing list for alumni news and to see forthcoming events, please register on the Foundation website.

In recent years alumni have gathered at Sixways for both the annual Rugby and Football fixtures against our local rivals; there have been London drinks and lunch events for alumni based in the South East; a dinner marking 150 years of the School being situated on the Tything, a lunch celebrating the Centenary of Perrins Hall opening in 1915; an Armed Services Reunion Dinner; the annual Alice Ottleians’ Summer Gathering; reunions by decade; the annual Foundation Golf Day; reunions by year group including the 1940s and 1950s.

The Foundation Office also seeks support from alumni to assist the award-winning Careers Service at RGS. Alumni who feel they may be able to support the School in this or any other capacity should contact the Foundation Office to discuss the opportunities available.
