Year Nine Perform In Time For Tea
How different the weather was from when the Year Nine concert was originally scheduled: instead of being deep in snow, Perrins Hall was surrounded by the beauty of spring. From the classical tradition, students performed piano pieces, composed by Haydn and Beethoven; a violin study by Bach and the ‘Pie Jesu’ from Fauré’s Requiem.
Bringing a little bit of jazz to the event, we had a solo saxophone arrangement of ‘Rachel and the Boys’ by James Rae and a guest performer from Year Seven, who played a jazz arrangement of the traditional Scottish melody, ‘Loch Lomond’.
We have a strong reputation in musical theatre here at RGS and we had three songs from musicals: ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from Les Misérables (a previous school production), ‘Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again’ from Phantom of the Opera (our next school production) and ‘Don’t Rain On My Parade’ from Funny Girl.
All of the students performed wonderfully and the parents and staff in the audience really enjoyed the event. We look forward to welcoming many more of you to our forthcoming Year Seven and Year Eight Tea Time Concerts later this term.
