Last week 12 schools visited RGS Worcester for the Under 12 District Netball Tournament. This year, for the first time ever, the District Tournament was also a chance to progress to the Winter Games Finals at the University of Worcester on 1 March, so there was much at stake.
Our Under 12 team started well with convincing wins against Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College, The Tudor Grange Academy and Christopher Whitehead Language College. The team worked really well together; we saw some exceptional Netball with phenomenal shooting from Kim-Ly Weaver and Lily Heyburn. In some matches the girls were scoring more than a goal a minute.
The crowd was incredibly supportive and the girls played with vigour. The final match was the crucial one, against The King’s School. The winner of this match would go through to the Winter Games and be crowned District Champions. A draw would not suffice for RGS Worcester as King’s would have won on goal difference. Following a very exciting first half, King’s were ahead by one goal. With some controlled play, RGS brought the score back to level and, in the last minute, with some calm shooting the team scored a winning goal.
Congratulations to all nine girls who showed great determination, skill and teamwork and we wish them all the best on 1 March in the Winter Games.
