The Worcester Regatta
The Worcester Regatta took place on Saturday 19 May and it turned out to be a lovely day for all. With our team rather depleted with our GCSE rowers absent we still put in a great effort and our rowers reached several finals.
The Royal Wedding Mixed Doubles sponsored by RGS Worcester was well received and our crew of Francine Bath and Matthew Hill reached the final, where they put up a good fight against two adult rowers (one of whom won Women’s Henley last year and the other raced at HRR). They raced to the line but unfortunately lost by half a length.
Drew Dixon and Harry Chaplin raced one of the most exciting events of the day in the J18 double against Wycliffe College. We only heard one bell on the line with a verdict of a canvas to Wycliffe. Sadly, our girls four suffered equipment failure in their first round against Bewdley so got knocked out – a great shame as they beat Bewdley convincingly at Evesham a few weeks ago.
Many RGS staff members came along at points throughout the day to show their support, which was really appreciated by both the rowing coaches and the rowers themselves. There were also lots of parents supporting RGS along the riverbank.
Our big fixture of the year is coming up this weekend – The National Schools Regatta. We have four J14 and J15 quads racing on Friday 25 May and the J16 boys quad and J16-18 girls four are racing on Sunday 27 May.
We would like to wish all those involved in the fixture this weekend good luck!
