The Sun has Shone on the 1st XI
What a glorious start to the cricket season it has been. The 1st XI has fully capitalised on the bright and dry conditions, taking away six wins from their first seven matches.
Back on 11 April, Elliott Bartlett set up a good victory over Nomads CC with a fine century that got the ball rolling for a promising season and some great individual performances. George Cook (Year Eleven) showed impressive play in the match against Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School, and contributed to a triumphant RGS victory as he struck an impressive 93 not out.

However, the performance of the season so far came in the Chesterton Cup 1st round against Wrekin College. This is now a T20 competition, and Wrekin looked to make a quick start as they chose to bat first, however they hadn’t reckoned on the RGS fielding which was ‘on fire’! Wrekin’s very able top batsmen were all dispatched with superb direct hits from Oli Saunders (twice), Elliott Bartlett and Kieran Smith, keeping Wrekin down to only 108, which was easily overhauled with Bartlett scoring a very quick 55 not out.
This victory pushes the 1st XI through to the Chesterton Cup Finals day at New Road on Sunday 31 May. Come down and support the boys!
Wins over KES Birmingham and Hereford Cathedral School completed an excellent start to the campaign.
