The Crowd Goes Wylde
In the build up to sports day, athletics training had been particularly busy with pupils coming down to practice events and in some cases learn a whole new event in a bid to help out their House!
On the hottest day of the year so far, the day started with the 800 metre races. James Dipple, who had broken the School record for the 800 metres earlier in the year, was out to better his own record. He ran a superb race but the conditions were not conducive to middle distance running and he fell short of his own record, despite winning by 50 metres.

House Leaders were rallying their athletes and there was a fantastic buzz around the field as pupils and parents gathered around events to support their House.
In the girls’ field events, Year Nine pupil Emma Brinkley increased her own School record in the Shot Put from 9.22 metres to 9.43 metres. On the track Year Seven pupil Seb Thompson, hampered by injury early in the season, displayed excellent hurdling technique to break the School record with a time of 11.2 seconds. Not to be outdone, Year Seven girls, Issy Nott and Lottie Atkinson, both broke School records in the Discus and Shot Put respectively.

In the senior competition, Kieran Garrattley won both the 100 metres and 200 metres, showing what a winter of athletics training can do. Amy Vickery did extremely well winning the Discus, High Jump and the 200m showing all round athletic ability in the Senior Girls competition.
A special mention must go to Nixie Turner, Tom Bailey and Holly Chance, all of whom won both the 800 metres and 1500 metres. This would be tough on any day of the year but, taking the heat into account, this was a great achievement.
Overall, it was a fantastic day of RGS athletics. Though the Year Group wins were shared around, the overall successor was Wylde House, taking home 33 house points. Whiteladies were second with 25, closely followed by Ottley with 24. Elgar held up the table with 18 points. This leaves Wylde almost 20 points clear at the top of the Championship Table with 181.5 points. Well done to all competitors and House Leaders. We are already looking forward to next year!
